What’s On My Dopi ATM: A Little Bit of Commercial Stuff

These past couple of months, I have had my butt planted in front of the TV, watching Foxtel through MOH’s X Box 360, in the evening.

MTV, unfortunately, seems to be running duplicate video shows and I have been hypnotized. I used to just switch over the repeats but now I cannot help but sit and stare. And download the bloody song later on to play it a million stinking times.

Yep, MTV has made a commercial little monkey out of me. Damn them.

So, the dopi has become a little sellout beyotch for these past few weeks. Let’s run through what I’ve been brainwashed with and see if this ailment can be cured…

  • Don’t Wanna Go Home- Jason DeRulo- Really, I dislike this guy and his live performances. But this song held together by the incomparable (and fellow Jamaican) Harry Belafonte‘s “Day-O (The Banana Boat Song)” and the video inclusions of ex PCD Melody Thornton and that cool as white girl with the slick moves and shaved head have won me over. I wish I could say “Damn you” in auto tune…
  • Give Me Everything (Jump Smoker’s Remix)- Pitbull feat Ne*Yo & Nayer- everyone and their bloody mom loves this song. I am no different except I like it better at the faster remixed pace. I thought the original was a little pedestrian for me so pffftt… Original lovers, you suck and I rock. Not really.
  • Party Rock Anthem- LMFAO- Another song everyone has been jamming to and for some reason, the song does not appear on any brand new CD compilations despite being in the iTunes chart for the longest time. I just like to sit and bop on the couch while I watch my feet do stupid things. These boys are not real musicians like their famous relative, Berry Gordy but this is music for the ringtone nation and it works for right now…
  • We Run The Night- Havana Brown- Honestly, I don’t mind her Crave compilations. She always to manages to include some great R&B throwbacks on a 3rd disc in the sets but when I first heard her “sing” with Enrique Iglesias on X Factor last year, I was unimpressed thinking, “hmmm, that’s what you sound like, huh?” MTV has made this a supremely catchy song to me and what makes it worse is that is on a compilation this Winter, that I have heard repeatedly for the past two weeks. I can’t foresee a second single as popular as this one. Oh well, I’ll be patiently awaiting Crave Volume 6, MIss Brown :)
  • Loud- Stan Walker- You know what? Even though, he’s mainstream and all, I still think he’s pretty tops for a singer. I got to see him at a work gala and he performed “Choose You” and “Homesick” from his sophmoric CD, From The Inside Out, as well as a cover of Travie McCoy & Bruno Mars “Billionaire”. He’s a singer, quite good at it, but out of all the videos I have been viewing on MTV, this one stands out for being poorly directed, poorly lit, poorly written and there is no performer in this video, just a singer. That said, though, Stan Walker can sing the shit out of a song, can’t he? Makes me wish he had had a larger vocal in the redone version of Jessica Mauboy’s “What Happened To Us”.
  • Determinate- Lemonade Mouth- okay, so this was on the Disney Channel, not MTV. Lemonade Mouth is Disney Channel’s most recent addition to their stable of Original films. Determinate is the killer song on the soundtrack and yes, I know this stuff is aimed at kids and tweens but who gives a fluck? Disney helps me live my childhood again through these fun films. This song starts off slow but it turns into an awesome powerful and inspirational track. Love it for rushing to the bus stop in the morning.

I think that’s it for now, everything else on my current playlist is full albums I’ve probably blogged about already. I’ll be back soon, I’m sure…
