For obvious reasons, we couldn’t watch these in the cinema but I purchased them on Blu Ray to watch at home.
Only two films in this post because I didn’t want to overcrowd them with the few useless films we’d also viewed.
The first film was Spread, which stars Ashton Kutcher, Anne Heche and Margarita Levieva.
I remember when the film first came out, I wasn’t interested because I don’t think too much of Kutcher as an actor. To me, he plays the same character in every role, just with different clothes. Anyhoo, fast forward from 2009 to 2012 and MOH and I have been obsessively watching ABC’s newest show, Revenge. Levieva plays a recurring character with close ties to the show’s protagonist and while I recalled her from Adventureland and Lincoln Lawyer, I really wanted to see what her acting chops were like in Spread, as I didn’t realise she’d end up a main character by the end. This film is about a conman/drifter who goes from rich woman to rich woman to live the Hollywood life, with no attachments. He falls for a girl who is not all she seems to be…
The Burning Plain was a film I had never heard of before I got myself a little obsessed with The Hunger Games.
I’ve been doing my utmost to watch previous films by all the actors and actresses. This is a film that Jennifer Lawrence was in before THG, co-starring Kim Basinger and Charlize Theron, spanning a couple of decades and 3 generations of a family ruined by love, lust and betrayal. It took me halfway through the film to realise what was going on. I won’t spoil it for you but it is good. Very bloody good.
All lead actresses were outstanding and well rounded out by their male counterparts in the film.
Really pleased with these two films, hoping to uncover more gems in the months to come.
